PostSubject: Shocks and struts for '86 stang   Shocks and struts for '86 stang EmptyNovember 22nd 2011, 11:25

Anyone have any ideas on shocks and struts??? Been looking at Oreilly's and they have some lakewoods, but they are kind of expensive ( I think anyway). I have also heard good things about KYB GR2's. Any help is appreciated.

KYB GR2's are just a stock replacement. I've had personal experience with KYB's, the cheapest of the cheapest from Autozone, Monroe's from Oreilly, and Tokicos. Autozone felt as if my shocks were already blown upon install. Monroes are a tad better, but blew after 6 months or so. KYB's are decent, but for a stock replacement. Valving is decent for stock, but if you mate them to a stiffer spring they just don't go too well together. Cornering becomes a bit bouncy.

I went with Tokico HP's on my Mustang and I mated them with Steeda Sport Springs (Steeda used the same combo on their road racing champion foxbody). You're lucky that you have an 86. 1984 and down foxbodies aren't exactly the same in the strut towers to their newer counterparts. A little bit of modification and I can make em work. Anywho, I've recommended them to my friend and my brother that mated them to Eibachs, and they loved them. Rather cheap on ebay, as a complete set ran me about 275 shipped. Dunno about prices now though...

Guess they went up in price...
Don't know what type of activity you're planning on getting with your Fox, but if you want a well valved sports shock/strut that can handle Mexican street turns at higher speeds, I'd go with them.

The kid I bought the car from already lowered it with I think BBK springs but the shocks are blown bad. What are your thoughts now??? Can get whole set shipped for $340 thats pretty good I think but give me yo brain nuggets

By the way can you elaborate on "mexican street turns" please???

Here is what they quoted me, I would rather you get it from you and you get the sale than get it from Idaho. I will need a shift lever and knob as well.

Egh, a lot of off the shelf lowering springs that are in the same ride height drop tend to have similar spring rates. Not like we are driving all out road racing cars that will need fine suspension tuning lol Smile So I'm sure your BBK's will be very similar to my Steeda's.
Depending on your driving style & what you actually plan to do with the car, it's what's gonna lead you to buy whatever. I want mine specifically for autocross & road racing, with some eventual spirited driving. But if you're considering the fox being more of a straight line warrior, the Lakewoods combined with some good upper & lower control arms would be your best bet. & I'm sure Dru can point you on the right direction from that one. UPR makes some good stuff that's reasonably priced.

why are they charging you to relocate the shifter? Thats 2350$ for a transmission thats already designed to fit in a Mustang.

their price for the transmission is 2350$

My price shipped on the transmission is 2250$ so saving you 100$ there

The bellhousing I need to call a few places. One warehouse wanted to charge me about 15$ more than what they are asking. I will do some more digging. When you get closer to ordering we will have to go over it all over again to insure accurate pricing.

Thats not to relocate the shifter it is a shifter. I requested it so the shifter will be further back since I dont like where it is located now. This shifter will bump it back an inch without modification to anything on trans or car. It's a Mcleod Kwik Stik, there trans price is only $2095 which is the best price I have seen for a NEW TKO500 so far. But if you can get the trans for a couple hundred more but get everything else cheaper than it will even out and I would rather get it from you.

Yeah I can definitely get a better price on a shifter for you. I'll make a few calls tomorrow and get some tremec pricing.
